My Loco Tr 113 (TMS 465)
Info I have found out about this loco so far shows that it was based in the upper Nth Island. When new in 1964 it was based at Frankton. In 1979 it was at Papakura. 1986 was in Te Rapa. 1991 it was relieving in the Rotorua yard and in 1992 it was at Te Rapa. In the early 2000s it sat in rotten row at Westfield Railway Yard in Auckland waiting to get scrapped. I have been told that the day before it was due to be cut up for scrap it was saved and sold to Tranz Scenic who moved it to the Otahuhu Rail Workshops to shunt carriages in their yard. In about 2004 the workshops upgraded with a bigger shunter and Tr 113 was put into storage for about 6 years. In 2010 the loco was again put up for scrap. I found out about the loco and with the help from several people managed to save this loco once again from the scrappers torch. I purchased this loco in June 2010. The loco was delivered to Wanganui on 6th of July 2010 by Hookers Pacific Transport and Emmetts Crane Hire lifted it back on the rails. I would like to thank SteamRail Wanganui for being able to store this loco in their shed.
I took a photo of this locomotive in Te Rapa (see photo below) when I was about 10 years old in 1986 when visiting my Uncles workplace while on holiday in Hamilton. My Uncle was a locomotive engineer at the time and now thinks he may have driven it when it was based at the car and wagon maintenance depot there as the local drivers regularly got rostered to shunt this yard, so it seems now that I may have been destined to own this loco, not only through taking early photos of it but with the family connection as well.
Tr 113 was built in 1964 in New Zealand by A & G Price of Thames, makers number 210 for the then New Zealand Government Railways. The loco is fitted with a 107hp Gardner 6LW diesel engine and a Twin Disc Torque Converter. The loco weight is 15.2 tonnes. It is of 0-4-0 wheel arrangement, with maximum speed of 24km/hr. This was 1 of a batch of 9 locos built between 1963/64.
This loco is currently under restoration (see updates on Restoration Progress page).
